Business Cards

Most important tips for business card design

  • Minimum Information: the main reason why we need a business card is to make it easy for people to contact us.  Therefore, only include information that is absolutely required, such as name, job title, email, landline and mobile number, website and address.  It’ s not necessary to provide a list of all the services and products or all your email addresses, or address of all the branches of your company. The amount of space in a card is very limited, therefore insert the necessary information as it would make the overall design look clean and easy-to-read.
  • Your Brand: A business card plays a vital role in branding and I should clearly represent your logo, your brand color and your brand font. It is very important that your business card is consistent with your other branded materials, your websites or your social media pages.  This helps to strengthen your brand image and more importantly helping new contact to remember you and your company better.
  • Size: When it comes to the size of a business card it is important to follow conventions.  Conventionally business card size is 3.5” x 2” – which is ideal for standard wallets and cardholders.  If a business card doesn’t fit into these items, chances are it may get tossed in the trash, which means you may loose out on potential business. If you want to stand out it’s advised think of an idea that fits within these dimensions, so that your prospective clients/customers can store your information.
  • 4.Paper: 3 things to keep in mind while choosing the paper:Weight: Just like a firm handshake, your business car needs to be sturdy so that it does not get bent in your wallet or cardholder. A flimsy card does not make a good first impression.Design: The paper you use can compliment the design of your card considerably. Colour and texture of the paper can make all the difference to a simple design.Finish: Finally you should consider the finish of the paper such as uncoated, matte or gloss. Decide on which would fit best your design and budget?
  • Design: Its best to keep the design of the card clean and organised, as you have to display your brand elements and your contact details in a very small space.  Make sure there is enough Negative Space (Negative space allows your eyes to rest and focuses your attention on what is most important) in your card. Carefully select fonts and font sizes, as it needs to be legible. Fonts represent your brand.  Finally you want to organise everything (brand element and contact information) in a way so that its visually appealing and is user-friendly.
